The following is information that may help you as you access Parentsplace Boards.

We decided to post this message because we wanted newbies to feel welcome and not be intimidated by the close-knit community we have created. We hope that by providing this information, you will feel more comfortable about joining in our conversations.

PURPOSE OF THE SCRAPBOOKING BOARD: The purpose of this board is to encourage others to follow in the art of Scrapbooking and to be sure that its a continuing art form for years to come, to make friendships around the world and to create a comfortable community for all.

You can also find the Scrapbooking Board and many other boards at
List of Boards.

You can find further rules at iVillage's Rules of Play article.

BOARD APPEARANCE

The board switched from an archivable board to a "live" board in Spring 2003.  That means that the board is always active and you can revive an older post simply by posting to it and bringing it to the top of the list again.

ARCHIVES

The boards on iVillage no longer archive, but if you would like to look up an older post, use the search engine at the top of the board desired.  If you can recall a few key words from that post, you should be able to find it easily.

"NETIQUETTE"

We don't have any hard and fast rules that would result in anyone 'being removed' from the board, but the following will make everyone's stay a little more safe, happy and pleasant...

1. Do not share overly personal information such as address, phone number, etc. on the board. Anyone on-line can read the board. If you want to speak with someone more in depth, exchange email addresses and do it that way.

2. Agree to disagree respectfully. Take a break and step away from a bulletin board if you feel your temper getting hot rather than prolonging a dispute. There are more important things in life than on-line fighting and "this too shall pass." We have people from all over the world contributing to our board, and everyone has different beliefs and cultures. This should be embraced and we should learn from it and appreciate it, not ridicule and argue.

3. Refrain from swearing, even casual swear words. It's just not polite.

4. Understand that you are communicating in writing. Facial expressions and intonation are absent in this environment. Your words count for more than your intended delivery. Sarcasm and irony work poorly in net-speak. Emoticons can help if you want to be sure people know you are kidding.

5. It is helpful if you end your headlines with either (m) or (nt) to indicate whether there is more (m) to the message so the reader should open the post, or if there is no text (nt) and the headline completes the message. This helps save your fellow community member's time.

6.ParentsPlace does not allow posting a URL (clickable link or otherwise) to a business website from which we can potentially gain any sort of monetary benefit. This would include home business websites, contest sites and the like. Also, no sites with competing formats (boards, chats, etc) are allowed to be posted. This includes Yahoo groups, egroups, etc.
